One of a Kind Kantha Quilt in Multi VII
For centuries Bengali village women have taken their discarded cloth/saris and sewn them together with a simple running stitch - the kantha stitch - to create something new. Though the kantha dorokha ("two-sided quilt") was created as a functional object, each is a work of art, creative and spontaneous in nature. Each kantha quilt has an intimacy, women stitched them for their loved ones. In Bangladesh old cloth is said to keep the user safe from harm. These quilts are vintage and imperfect in the most beautiful ways - wiggly stitching and visible repairs are part of their history and charm. Irregularities, imperfections and small stains may be present, but never takes away from the integrity of the piece, telling the story of its previous life. The collection has been selected for the quality of stitching and design.
